Farewell, Randy

There are several feral cats who hang around Puff's house and Randy was one of them. Puff's Mom feeds them and tries to looks after them as best she can. Puff's Mom and Dad decided to try to catch Randy last December because he wasn't looking too good. They succeeded on December 10th and took him to the vet. Randy was pretty sick. He tested positive for both FIV and feline leukemia. He had an open wound on his tail, four teeth that had to be removed, fleas, worms, IBD and some kidney problems. He was also quite wild and quite capable of slicing and dicing any human who got too close to him. He lived in a nice big cage in the small bedroom, with a carrier to hide in. He got lots of medicine in his food, which he usually ate, until he got really sick. He was getting used to being inside and around humans. Puff's Mom found out that if she attached a soft brush to a stick, Randy would let her brush him. He even purred while she did it. Just before he went to the Rainbow Bridge, Randy even let Puff's Mom pet him with her hand. He was turning into an inside cat. Randy lived in Puff's house for a bit over two months and was apparently getting better, but then he went into a serious decline and had to be helped to the Rainbow Bridge. Puff's family are very sad.

Randy was a cat who lived outside.
When Mom tried to catch him, he would hide.
                                                   Then he got really sick
And went to the vet quick.
It was too late to save him, so he went Bridge-side.

Thank you for posting this story - it's great the way that Randy got to know love, even though he was a very sick kitty. We're going over to send some purrs to Randy's family.

I am glad there was someone to love him at least for a short time.

I'm glad Randy had a great Mom and Dad to show him love when he needed it most.

What a nice tribute to Randy that is... poor little guy barely had a chance to really enjoy his little life. What a sweet face on him!

Thank you so much, Karen Jo and everyone who left nice comments. Randy was a tough guy to catch, we were trying since May when we could first get him to stay and eat. Even though he wasn't our kitty for long enough, we miss him.

Every time I look out the window, I see a Randy spot where he used to sit in the sun. I know that all the kitties who went before him are taking care of him now.

Oh, how sad! We hadn't heard about Randy. It was nice he had a warm place to live and someone to care about him during his last couple of months.

That's very sad. But at least he knew the love of people caring for him before he went to the bridge.

Sad story, but Randy had a nice person who took care of him while he was sick. At least he didn't have to stay outside during his time of trying to get better. Nice limerick in honor of Randy.

Poor Randy...bye bye.

About the leash. I'm too smart to have that thing strapped to me. Ha, ha.

Mom bean would love it if I let her put one on me that I couldn't wiggle out of.
