Behind Schedule

I had some time all plotted out this morning for kitchen counter scrubbing, floor mopping, dusting and vacuuming and then things started to happen, like phone calls, and I never got any of it done. I do have time tomorrow morning, if nothing else happens, but this means that I still haven't gotten started on my room. I thought about doing some of my room tonight, but I had a really busy day at work and came home too tired to do anything but blog a bit. I can always sleep in Herman's room, if he shows signs of wanting company all night. The couch in there is a hide-a-bed. I kind of think he will want his own space tomorrow night, though, and I just might be able to get my room in shape Tuesday, my day off. I surprised myself at how quickly I got the living room and kitchen cleared of stuff that wasn't kitty friendly. I am happy, excited and nervous. I tried telling myself today that if there was anything that would make the Friends of the Shelter change their minds about letting me adopt Herman, they would have asked me about it already. I guess the only thing I have to worry about is that the foster lady said that sometimes the cat liked the person, but hated the house and would get so fractious that he or she had to be returned. I think that Herman will be so glad to get out of that room he's been in for the last few months and into a home with just himself and one person that he will just settle in nicely. I also believe that fractious cats just need some space and time and love, though there may be cases where that doesn't work. Hopefully by this time tomorrow, Herman will be settling into his new life.

Just read the last few posts and this is very exciting. And don't worry! Things are going to work out and he'll settle in...even if it takes some time. We've had our share of special needs, tough-life cat (Georgia) and with time everything works out.

A room to himself is a good idea, definitely with the door shut so as not to overwhelm him, with short re-assuring visits if he's scared, or lots of visits if he likes it. He sounds like he may be nervous, but warm up to you pretty quick. Don't get discouraged or take it personally if he's overwhelmed at first. We were bitten so many times by Georgia in the first few weeks, but now all she does is cuddle.
Sorry this is so long! You just seem worried and it really will be ok and an exciting time.

Regarding the house cleaning...the only reason our house is clean is because of the cats. I'm always worried about string or whatever they might find...so yeah, cats are good for motivation to clean.

Last thing, I read the last posts about food...you're so right to want to change his food (but slowly and not until he's settled of course) and I'd also recommend something like Evo. Probably mostly canned too as opposed to dry - canned is better for them and the extra water helps keep away UTIs. Ok, I'll stop now. Good luck...Herman's a lucky guy.

I'll bet you are counting the hours now! My Mommeh said there is something interesting that always happens whenever she adopts a new kitty. At first, of course you think the cat is cute and nice and you are glad you got him. But then, after about a week, you sort of "fall in love" and the cat will become your family instead of just your pet.

We think that you're pretty well prepared now and you have enough time to finish up before Herman gets there. You two just need some time to get to know each other, and it seems like you're well prepared for this. This is exciting for us, and we live in another country! Can't imagine how excited you are.

We are soooo happy about your news about Herman! We are so excited for you. Mom remembers what it was to get us to owr new home like it was yesterday an so do we so we are twirling around in joy for you two.
Owr advice bout food is to not to be afraid to think out of the box on what to feed him. Read up on whole foods and protein and give him what feels right to you. If that means people food like cooked chicken since you don't want to do raw then go ahead. The closer the food to an animals natural diet would be the best. We don't advocate dried food for any animal but that's your choice. We are sending the best wishes and hugs and love and haf fun!
We can't wait for pictures and settling in stories. Remember, all you need is love. Yoo two are gonna be so happy. Awwwwwww. Purrrs, BB&A
