This house is beginning to feel lonesome and I think I just might adopt a kitty or two, but the house needs to be made kitty-friendly first. My Mother loved cut glass and there is a lot of this about:
Also, does anyone know what kind of plant this is and if it is dangerous to kitties?
It may take quite a while for me to get the house ready, but I feel that there is most likely a kitty or two in my future.

A kitty or two, what a lovely thought. Thankfully ours do not both with any knick-knacks or such, so no worry about what's on tabletops here and there.
Plants: another story entirely; no matter what it is, it's attacked and eaten - so all plants are gone now I'm afraid.
Why stop at two? Haf six!!!

go there Karen - they are toxic to kitties!
Adopt cats, we deserve it!!! Sorry, could help myself! ><(((ยบ>
What a wonnerful thot, Karen Jo. Make sure to get siblings an you's can watch tha lovely bond between them develop. Furry sweet. Just look at our posts of tha boys together.
Kitties would push all that stuff on top of that lil table right off onto tha floor. That game is called "Will it Bounce or Will it Break?". It's a favorite.
To keep it safe an simple, Mommy ML only grows kitty grass an catnip in tha house.
There may be a few fings to get your home ready fur cats, but theys will repay you a gazillion times over. Trust us on this.
You's will sit there, covered in cat hair, pointing at sumfing cute one of yours cats is doing an wonnering, how's did I effur live without 'em. Trust me on this, too.
Love & Purrs,
KC
It's nice that you're go to have some kitties in your future. Plants are a bit of a mystery to our Mum, so we don't have any inside. She keeps promising to grow grass like Mommy ML, but hasn't gotten around to it - like blogging regularly.

PS For Drebin, he was first mentioned on Mr Tuck's blog because his human works with Mr Tuck's Mom.

That would be so great for you to get several kitties. I know you will give them lots of love and they will in return give you love in return. Your time will be filled with fun and laughs. You could kitty proof your living area and kitchen, then you could use those door things to keep the little ones out of trouble while you still sort through your mom's things. I must say that lamp is quite beautiful and I bet a kitten could have hours of fun playing with it.
I love your limericks, you are so talented. I have put your link on my side bar so I can find my way back to you again.
Thanks for stopping by.
Yay for kittehs, kawen Jo! Wots and wots of kittehs!
Boy
Gypsy and Tasha gave you the info on Drebin (poor thing...)
As far as that plant, it's a schefflera and is on the list of toxic plants for cats and dogs (humans too!) I have a schefflera plant in the house but the cats don't bother it. As far as plants are concerned, it really depends on the cat...I have lots of plants around my house and for the most part, the cats leave them alone. They might nibble on a leaf occasionally but nothing drastic. But I've seen other cats destroy plants. So you just don't know.
It would be really great if you adopted a kitty or two...or three...

How wonderful to fill you home with kitties. Mom does not 'do' plants. She can not grow any thing in side, but can outside! So we do not have any!
Dear Karen Jo- I'm usually one of the lurkers, but I have loved your limericks all along. You have gotten good advice from everyone--sibs are wonderful, if you can't find them, at least get two the same age at the same time.
Parker was right about the plant--I've had them without trouble for many years, but no more! Smokey thought the pot made a wonderful potty.
We wish you all good luck finding kittens. They are truly one of God's little miracles.
Love and purrs from Meepsie, Smokey and Old Mumma Jan
What a wonderful idea Karen to adopt a cat or two - they can play with each other. You need to house proof like a small child was coming..no breakables, no plants..no small hiy places. But they will make up for all this with love and light!
Adopting a pair of kitties would be such a wonderful tribute to your mom.
Hi Karen Jo!
I'm glad to see that you are going to get a kitten or two! Your mom will be watching them play and will be very happy for you, I'm sure. She left you a lovely lamp, but you may want to put it away for a while. Toeshee broke so many things his first year with us! Kittens are fuzzy balls of energy. They will play and play, literally bouncing off walls and then promptly drop off into a nap wherever they land. :)
I do agree that that "Umbrella" plant should probably go. It could make the kitties sick. Is it warm enough where you live to put it outside? I think they come from Vietnam, so they are rather tropical in nature. Kitties are far more interesting than plants anyway. :) Oh, the purrs, the meows, the head butts, the sweet companionship and non-judgmental friendship they give!
I have been keeping you in my thoughts as you go through this difficult time. Your Mom was very pretty and my what a full life she had! 90! How lucky she was to have you to love and care for her.
Sending Gentle Hugs,
Lorianna
It would be fun to see pictures of your kitties being posted Karen Jo. The last URL I had for Jake's blog is jakesreport.blogspot.com. Danielle was one of the first ones, when we all started blogging together. The Daily Kitten started us all off together over three years ago.
We think you will be the most wonderful cat mom ever!
Kidlets would be great! And there's still adoption specials going on in the city shelters!
Big big hugs to you sweet Karen Jo....I am so sorry to read of your mothers sudden passing away. Surround yourself with her beautiful things and the warm memories will flow as you finally will be able to watch some furry kitties scamper around your life.
Much love from Miss Peach and mommy Karla
Dunno about the plant, but I do know I'd like to BOUNCE on it!!!
