Tommy

This is how Tommy asks to be let out on the balcony.  He seems to be wishing that he were just a little taller and had thumbs, so he could let himself out.  Tommy is Shilgiah's brother.  He came to live with her in September of 2006, when he was about three years old.  When he first arrived, he had a nasty virus and had to be isolated in the study for two weeks.  During that time, he and Shilgiah talked to each other and played pawsies under the door.  When he was allowed out for the first time, Shilgiah hissed at him, but she soon discovered that he was a lot of fun.  One of the things he did that endeared him to her was to show her how to get rid of her collar.  After Tommy took both his and Shilgiah's collar off time after time, the Mom finally decided that it was useless to try to keep collars on them.  Both Shilgiah and Tommy really enjoy going out on the balcony, but Tommy loves it more.  Last spring, a bird made a nest on the balcony and the cats weren't allowed out there until the baby birds were reared and flew away.  Tommy really hated not being allowed out, but he made the best of it and now he and his sister get to go out for a while every morning again.

Tommy loves to sit on the balcony,
Listening to birds sing him a symphony.
                                                     The brisk morning air
                                                      He sniffs with a flair.
Life is good for a cat with a balcony.

Dear Karen Jo
I love your blog. Your stories are great. Strangely enough, Lucky can hear the dog food tin (it is a 15 pound tin) being opened and she can hear the food being poured in her bowl. You should see her come tearing down the stairs and across the floor when she hears that. Lucky can hear sounds, just not always know which direction they are coming from. The food thing, she's got that one down pat.

My mom put up a link to your site and must have clicked it more than once cuz it came out three links! The more the better I say.

Yes indeed a balcony is good, but a garden even better, that's what Rosie discovers she learned to use the cat flap !

aw that is a cute tale...how clever to be able to remove the collars! me and castle don't wear collars (castle got a rash and i didn't like mine). we have a balcony but it is 11 floors up in th air - so we don't go out there, we would be too tempted to jump for the pigeons...and that would be a bad thing to happen. meowmie is supposed to be getting soe mesh to enclose the balcony so we can go out there with supervision though...xxx

Tommy looks like such a cutie. We have a tabby that looks very much like Tommy. His name is Dexter. I just love your description of Tommy helping de-collar not only himself but Shilgiah! You gotta love those adorable and intelligent tabbies! Cindy at Rosehaven Cottage

Tommy wants to go outside. I bet you understand the word like I do. When Mom says outside I go to the door and meow. We got to go outside this morning for a little while. So I know how much you like to go out on that balcony.

Karen Jo, great limerick for Oscar. Such a sad sad week.
